Staff Engineer (Observability)

Location: Hybrid role based out of the Bridgewater, New Jersey office, with the option to work remotely and in-person collaboration as needed.

Salary: $133,000–$173,000 annual

What you will do

• Own the enterprise observability strategy, multi-year roadmap, platform architecture, tool rationalization, and data-retention approach.
• Serve as the technical authority for Dynatrace architecture, including tenant and management-zone design, ActiveGate topology, OneAgent deployment, Grail ingestion, and multi-environment scaling.
• Define full-stack observability standards across metrics, logs, traces, events, APM, RUM, synthetic monitoring, and multi-cloud services.
• Evaluate OpenTelemetry, eBPF instrumentation, AIOps, and build-versus-buy options while automating monitoring with Dynatrace APIs, Terraform, Configuration as Code, and CI/CD integrations.
• Design SLAs, SLOs, onboarding paths, self-service tooling, dashboards, queries, and Notebooks for engineering and executive audiences.
• Lead technical reviews and major-incident escalations, isolate root causes across network, infrastructure, and application layers, and mentor engineers across technical teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, monitoring, observability, or network engineering.
• 6+ years of hands-on Dynatrace experience, including OneAgent, ActiveGate, Smartscape, Davis AI, Grail, DQL, SLOs, Workflows, APIs, and Configuration as Code.
• 4+ years designing and operating monitoring for public cloud environments, with GCP and/or AWS experience.
• Experience with complementary observability platforms such as Grafana or Splunk, plus Cisco networking, Kubernetes, Docker or OpenShift, automation, Terraform, and CI/CD.
• Knowledge of ServiceNow, ITIL, change management, SRE practices, SLI/SLOs, error budgets, and Agile delivery.

Nice to have

• Azure Monitor experience.
• Experience delivering monitoring in a regulated or GxP environment.
