TL;DR
Production Supervisor (Chemical Engineer) (Chemical Manufacturing): Leading safe and efficient production operations while supporting the commissioning and startup of a new chemical plant with an accent on process troubleshooting, operator development, and equipment performance. Focus on resolving process and equipment issues, implementing safety practices, and coordinating production across maintenance, laboratory, engineering, material handling, and planning teams.

Location: Suffolk, Virginia, United States of America; onsite role. The first 1–2 years follow a Monday–Friday daytime schedule, transitioning to a rotating 12-hour shift schedule.

Expected compensation: $77,270–$113,322 per year, plus discretionary bonuses.

What you will do

  • Lead production activities for an assigned shift and provide technical guidance during commissioning and routine operations.
  • Support commissioning and startup of a new plant, including operator hiring, training, safe-work documentation, and development of operating routines.
  • Manage and develop approximately four to six direct reports through coaching, training, performance management, and succession development.
  • Troubleshoot process, equipment, and quality issues, identify root causes, and implement solutions.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance, Laboratory, Engineering, Material Handling, and Planning to improve equipment performance and meet production targets.
  • Participate in EHS programs, audits, safety committees, job safety analyses, emergency response training, and shift turnover activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and 3+ years of experience in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of hazardous chemical handling, chemical manufacturing processes, and plant equipment.
  • Ability to lead teams, communicate across departments, make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment, and solve operational problems.
  • Ability to perform physical activities including climbing stairs, prolonged walking, and bending.
  • Ability to work with Federal and State safety and environmental requirements, including EPA programs, RCRA, DOT, and OSHA.
  • Must remain clean-shaven for respirator use and be willing to join the emergency response team and complete Incident Command training.

Nice to have

  • Experience with reactors, distillation columns, automation, Distributed Control Systems/PLCs such as DeltaV, and data historians.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and SAP.
