Upstream Manufacturing Supervisor

Location: 100% on-site in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, United States; applicants must already live locally or within a reasonable commuting distance. Relocation is not provided.

Salary: $84,160–$131,500 per year, plus eligibility for bonus, stock, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead daily manufacturing operations for catalog and custom chemical standards while meeting safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity goals.
• Oversee organic and inorganic chemical manufacturing in accordance with approved procedures, specifications, and regulatory expectations.
• Partner with Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and technical teams to resolve production issues, support investigations, reduce nonconformances, and maintain process integrity.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives using lean manufacturing, root cause analysis, standard work, and structured problem-solving methods.
• Coach and develop production employees and frontline leaders through feedback, training, skill development, and career discussions.
• Use production, quality, inventory, labor, and schedule data to plan capacity, prioritize actions, and coordinate with Planning, Procurement, Logistics, Engineering, Technical Support, and Commercial teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Operations Management, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Experience leading manufacturing, production, laboratory operations, or technical operations in a chemical or regulated manufacturing environment.
• Working knowledge of organic and inorganic chemistry, chemical formulation, solution preparation, raw material control, and safe chemical handling.
• Ability to lead people, manage priorities, communicate clearly, build trust, and make data-driven operational decisions.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with changing priorities and operational constraints.
• Must work on-site in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, and already reside locally or within reasonable commuting distance.

Nice to have

• Experience with SAP or another ERP system for production orders, inventory, scheduling, or manufacturing execution.
• Experience in ISO 9001, ISO 17025, ISO 17034, GMP, DEA-regulated, or other regulated quality environments.
• Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, visual management, standard work, or operational excellence experience.
• Experience with analytical chemistry, certified reference materials, traceability, stability, quality control testing, or dangerous goods shipping.
• Advanced Excel, Power BI, SQL, programming, or reporting skills.
