Engineer, Platform Engineering - Systems (DevEx/Kubernetes)

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States; four days per week in the office.

Salary: $102,850–$133,100 annual base salary, plus potential incentive compensation and equity eligibility.

What you will do

• Build and maintain CI pipelines with GitHub Actions and integrate them with platform deployment tooling.
• Own Helm charts and environment configuration for containerized services running on Kubernetes.
• Instrument pipelines and microservices with metrics, logs, tracing, and retention policies.
• Define service level objectives, manage error budgets, and improve production reliability.
• Automate repeatable releases, rollbacks, incident response, disaster recovery testing, and environment provisioning.
• Document architecture decisions and create developer tooling that improves delivery speed and safety.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in platform engineering, developer experience, infrastructure, or reliability engineering, or 2+ years with a bachelor's degree.
• Experience supporting the software delivery lifecycle from build and testing through deployment and observability.
• Experience operating production application services in Java or a comparable language before moving into developer tooling.
• Strong knowledge of Linux and experience operating containerized services on Kubernetes, Nomad, or similar orchestrators.
• Experience with observability, service level objectives, error budgets, deployment automation, and production reliability.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Python, Terraform, YAML, Docker or Podman, GitOps, shell scripting, and CI/CD integration experience.
• Incident response, disaster recovery testing, and experience with regulated or latency-sensitive financial systems.
• Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• AI-assisted development tooling, SQL, PostgreSQL, or experience establishing a platform function from scratch.
