TL;DR
Mission Systems Engineer (Space Systems): Building simulation tools and conducting mission analyses for next-generation space control systems with an accent on orbital mechanics, trajectory design, constellation performance, and system integration. Focus on designing rendezvous and proximity operations trajectories, optimizing spacecraft maneuvers, supporting real-time mission execution, and investigating anomalies across the full mission lifecycle.

Location: Fully onsite in Centennial, Colorado or Long Beach, California; U.S. work authorization and ITAR eligibility required.

Base salary: $130,000–$195,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Build mission modeling, simulation, and analysis capabilities for trade studies, performance evaluations, feasibility assessments, and system architecture decisions.
  • Design, simulate, and analyze rendezvous, proximity operations, and constellation mission trajectories.
  • Optimize spacecraft maneuvers while balancing fuel efficiency, timing, mission objectives, and risk.
  • Integrate mission systems across hardware, software, and operational components, coordinating with subsystem teams to resolve integration issues.
  • Support testing, real-time mission execution, pre-flight and post-flight analysis, trajectory reconstruction, and anomaly investigations.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal stakeholders, government agencies, and customers.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in mission analysis, space operations, or orbital mechanics.
  • Strong understanding of orbital mechanics, spacecraft dynamics, and autonomous space operations.
  • Hands-on experience with STK, FreeFlyer, GMAT, or similar mission analysis tools.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or C++ and experience with simulation tools.
  • Experience with mission planning and real-time mission support.
  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI or TS/SAP U.S. government security clearance and meet U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Experience with defense or classified space missions.
