Mainframe Network Engineer

Location: CT - Hartford, United States. Candidates must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States.

Annual base salary: $94,400–$155,800.

What you will do

• Analyze, design, implement, and support infrastructure components across mainframe, compute, storage, collaboration, and specialized technology domains.
• Define technical requirements for infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, operational support, and automation.
• Configure and optimize physical, virtualized, and cloud-based infrastructure for high availability, performance, and operational resilience.
• Maintain monitoring, capacity planning, incident response, security, and compliance procedures.
• Collaborate with software, platform, and operations teams to align infrastructure capabilities with application and business needs.
• Provide technical guidance to Associate and Senior Associate Infrastructure Engineers and contribute to infrastructure standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related STEM field, or equivalent work experience, plus at least 2 years of infrastructure engineering experience.
• Deep proficiency in IBM z/OS Communications Server, including SNA, VTAM, and APPN/Enterprise Extender.
• Experience with TSO/ISPF, JCL, IOF, z/OS TCP/IP, OSPF, EIGRP, and Layer 2/Layer 3 integration.
• Ability to analyze VTAM traces and TCP/IP packet captures, and experience with switches, firewalls, load balancers, and 3270 emulators.
• Knowledge of z/OS Policy Agent, AT-TLS, digital certificates, keyrings, SSH, SSL/TLS, SFTP, FTPS, and Connect:Direct.
• Competency in REXX, CLIST, Python, or Linux BASH, plus experience with SMF reporting, IBM NetView, and performance or capacity-planning tools.
