Configuration Engineer (Routers & Switches)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States — onsite at an HPE office. The role may involve occasional travel for customer deployments or field activities.

Salary: USD 105,500–213,500 annual base salary in California, United States. Variable incentives may also be offered.

What you will do

• Configure, provision, deploy, and validate enterprise routers, switches, and other network devices according to customer specifications.
• Install software, upgrade firmware, configure operating systems, and implement VLANs, static and dynamic routing, ACLs, and port security.
• Perform functional testing, troubleshoot hardware and software configuration issues, and support staging, production, integration, and deployment activities.
• Collaborate with engineering and project management teams to implement customer requirements accurately.
• Maintain configuration documentation, build procedures, technical records, and standard configuration templates.
• Assist with network automation scripts to improve configuration efficiency.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 3–5 years of hands-on experience configuring enterprise routers and switches, including Juniper or Aruba equipment.
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, Ethernet, IPv4/IPv6, VLANs, routing and switching, DNS, DHCP, and SNMP.
• Experience with console access, SSH, TFTP/FTP/SCP, terminal emulation software, network diagrams, and customer configuration requirements.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, organization, and documentation skills.
• Ability to work onsite in Sunnyvale and in laboratory, staging, or manufacturing environments; ability to lift and move networking equipment up to 40 lbs.

Nice to have

• Experience with Python, Ansible, or other network automation and scripting tools.
• Familiarity with Linux, configuration management tools, and version control.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and network hardening.
• Experience in manufacturing, systems integration, telecommunications, or data center environments.
