Associate GIS Specialist (Environmental)

Location: Hybrid in Chantilly, Virginia; authorized to work in the United States required

What you will do

• Support Clean Water Act, MS4, TMDL, stormwater, and other environmental compliance programs through GIS analysis.
• Develop and maintain geodatabases, GIS applications, drainage area datasets, stormwater infrastructure data, and mobile field data collection tools.
• Create maps, graphics, reports, spatial analyses, inspection reports, and technical memoranda using Esri GIS software.
• Conduct stormwater infrastructure inspections, environmental investigations, sampling, illicit discharge investigations, and erosion and sediment control inspections.
• Collect GPS and field data using tablets and mobile GIS applications while documenting field conditions in varying terrain and weather.
• Communicate with project managers, technical staff, clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies; assist with procedures, training, and GIS technology implementation.

Requirements

• Associate's or bachelor's degree in GIS, geography, environmental science, engineering, natural resources, or a related field.
• 0–4 years of relevant GIS, environmental consulting, or field investigation experience.
• Experience with or strong interest in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and mobile GIS applications.
• Strong organization, attention to detail, written and verbal communication, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Ability and willingness to perform outdoor fieldwork, use field equipment, and lift moderate amounts of equipment.
• Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and authorization to work in the United States required.

Nice to have

• Geodatabase development, GIS data management, GPS data collection, and mobile GIS workflow experience.
• Python or GIS automation experience.
• Virginia DEQ SWM Inspector or ESC Inspector certification, or ability to obtain certification within 12 months.
• Experience with stormwater inspections, sampling, engineering plans, construction drawings, SWPPPs, MS4 permits, TMDLs, or local government clients.
• Esri technical certifications, GISP certification, or interest in pursuing applicable professional certifications.
