Mechanical Engineer (HVAC)

What you will do

• Lead the design and engineering of HVAC, heating and cooling, ventilation, building automation, and controls systems.
• Perform engineering calculations, equipment sizing, load analysis, energy modeling, and system evaluations.
• Provide technical leadership to mechanical engineers and designers from concept through construction.
• Coordinate mechanical designs with multidisciplinary teams and prepare 3D construction documents in Revit.
• Support BIM coordination, clash detection, code compliance, energy efficiency, and LEED certification.
• Conduct site visits, respond to RFIs, review submittals, and support construction administration and observation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required, with the ability to obtain Michigan licensure if not currently licensed in Michigan.
• At least 10 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
• Extensive experience designing HVAC systems for commercial or educational facilities.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, building codes, energy codes, and industry design standards.
• Experience with Revit, Trane TRACE or Carrier HAP, and Bluebeam.

Nice to have

• Experience designing mechanical systems for K-12 educational facilities.
• LEED accreditation or other sustainability-related credentials.
• Experience in an architectural, engineering, or consulting firm.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and designers.
• Familiarity with high-performance building systems and sustainable design practices.
