Energy Engineer

Location: Columbia, Maryland, United States; hybrid with attendance at the hirify.global Columbia office at least two times per week and up to 20% local travel for site visits and inspections

What you will do

• Review custom, building tune-up, and retro-commissioning incentive applications, including baselines, savings calculations, documentation, and program eligibility.
• Evaluate projected energy savings for HVAC systems, building automation controls, lighting, and industrial equipment.
• Analyze interval and monthly utility consumption data using spreadsheets and data analysis tools.
• Provide technical guidance on energy-efficient technologies, baselines, measurement and verification plans, and program requirements.
• Assess whole-building efficiency strategies, plans, and specifications, and recommend energy efficiency upgrades.
• Conduct pre- and post-implementation site visits and prepare project status reports.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, energy, building science, construction management, or a related discipline; relevant experience may substitute for education.
• At least 2 years of experience with commercial, industrial, healthcare, institutional, or public-sector energy efficiency projects.
• Ability to pass a background check, motor vehicle records check, and drug screening.
• Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle for local project travel.
• Knowledge of energy efficiency practices, building science, and applicable technical requirements is needed for the role.

Nice to have

• Experience with IESVE, eQUEST, EnergyPlus, TRACE 3D Plus, Carrier HAP, or similar energy modeling platforms.
• FE, LEED, or CEM credentials.
• Experience with building automation systems, HVAC controls, retro-commissioning, controls optimization, trend analysis, and energy management systems.
• Knowledge of Maryland building codes, ASHRAE 90.1, energy codes, and sustainable building practices.
