Safety Manager (Heavy Civil)

Location: Los Angeles, California, United States; field presence is required across active heavy-civil construction environments.

Salary: $110,000–$185,000 per year ($53–$89 per hour)

What you will do

• Lead or support program-level safety governance across concurrent construction contracts.
• Review site-specific safety plans, job hazard analyses, activity hazard analyses, and high-hazard work plans for contractual and OSHA compliance.
• Conduct field audits and site walks to verify that documented safety controls are implemented at the work face.
• Drive corrective actions through verified closure and oversee incident investigations, root cause analysis, and follow-up.
• Coordinate safety planning across contractors, operating environments, regulators, and program leadership.
• Analyze leading and lagging indicators, report trends, and lead or develop assigned safety staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, safety engineering, construction management, civil engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of construction safety experience on large, complex heavy-civil infrastructure projects valued above $500 million.
• Experience reviewing safety plans and hazard analyses, conducting field audits, issuing stop-work directions, and tracking corrective actions.
• Experience with incident investigation, root cause analysis, trend reporting, and supervision or mentoring of field safety staff.
• Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926, OSHA recordkeeping and reporting, excavation and shoring, confined spaces, fall protection, crane and rigging, energized work, and work-zone traffic control.
• Experience with safety or incident-reporting software such as Enablon, Intelex, or Procore, plus Microsoft Office 365.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or active CSP, CHST, STSC, or CIH certification.
• Owner’s representative, program management, construction management, or program-level safety governance experience.
• Experience with $1B+ programs, construction packages above $100 million, rail safety, airport safety, or safety training programs.
• Experience with Power BI, Oracle Cloud Analytics, or other KPI dashboard software.
