Sr Principal Optical Systems Engineer (Silicon Photonics)

Location: Beaverton, Oregon, United States; onsite day-shift role

What you will do

• Lead optical system architecture and development from concept through commercial deployment and production release.
• Translate customer and product needs into system requirements, performance specifications, interfaces, and verification plans.
• Own optical performance, manufacturability, reliability, cost, schedule, and scalability for optical subsystems.
• Develop wave-optics, diffraction, beam-propagation, and photonic-device models, including tolerance, sensitivity, and error-budget analyses.
• Lead optical characterization, metrology, automated testing, data acquisition, and system-level verification.
• Provide technical leadership across engineering, manufacturing, quality, software, and commercial teams without direct people management.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with at least 8 years of related experience, a Master’s degree with at least 6 years, a PhD with at least 3 years, or equivalent experience.
• Deep expertise in wave optics, optical-system analysis, photonic devices, and optical modeling.
• Experience leading complex technical projects from concept through implementation or product release.
• Hands-on experience with optical testing, measurement methodologies, experimental correlation, precision alignment, opto-mechanical systems, and system integration.
• Experience with ANSYS Zemax and programming or automation using Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar tools.
• Must work onsite in Beaverton, Oregon.

Nice to have

• Experience with silicon photonics, photonic integrated circuits, or wafer-level optical testing.
• Knowledge of microfabrication, additive manufacturing, cleanroom, or semiconductor process technologies.
• Familiarity with machine vision, image processing, automated inspection, statistical process control, or design of experiments.
