Optical Systems Engineer (Semiconductor)

Location: Beverly, Massachusetts, United States; on-site

Base salary: $132,073–$198,109 per year, plus eligibility for a team incentive bonus and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead the architecture, design, analysis, and development of optical systems for semiconductor equipment and metrology applications.
• Develop optical solutions for process monitoring, wafer alignment, implant verification, materials characterization, and process control.
• Perform optical modeling, simulation, tolerancing, performance analysis, and experimental measurements.
• Design and specify lasers, illumination systems, polarization optics, imaging and spectroscopic systems, sensors, detectors, optical assemblies, and calibration methods.
• Build proof-of-concept systems and prototypes, then convert laboratory concepts into robust, manufacturable production systems.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, controls, process, and systems engineers while supporting vendors, troubleshooting systems, and providing technical mentorship.

Requirements

• Master’s or Ph.D. in Optical Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience developing complex optical systems.
• Strong knowledge of geometrical optics, physical optics, imaging systems, lasers, photonics, and optical metrology.
• Experience taking optical systems from concept through prototype and validation, including optical testing and calibration.
• Programming experience with MATLAB, Python, or similar scientific computing tools.
• Strong data analysis, problem-solving, communication, cross-functional collaboration, and independent execution skills.

Nice to have

• Semiconductor equipment or semiconductor metrology experience.
• Experience with Zemax, Code V, FRED, COMSOL, or similar modeling tools.
• Experience designing opto-mechanical assemblies for industrial environments.
• Knowledge of statistical analysis and measurement-system validation.
• Experience developing production-ready systems from early-stage research concepts.
