Senior Laser Engineer (Photonics)

What you will do

• Design, integrate, test, and qualify advanced low-power continuous-wave, single-frequency, tunable diode laser systems and subsystems.
• Perform system-level optical, electrical, thermal, mechanical, and software analysis to improve performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
• Drive engineering changes, product transfer to production, NPI activities, and sustaining engineering while maintaining technical documentation.
• Lead root-cause investigations for product, manufacturing, and field failures; analyze reliability, yield, and performance data and implement corrective actions.
• Support manufacturing, operations, customer qualification, evaluation, and acceptance testing, including investigation of customer-reported issues.
• Travel approximately 10% to support customers, suppliers, and manufacturing operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline, plus 5+ years of industry experience.
• Strong system-level troubleshooting, diagnostics, and root-cause analysis skills.
• Hands-on experience developing, testing, integrating, manufacturing, or supporting laser systems, photonics products, or electro-optical instruments.
• Experience with laser laboratory equipment and optoelectronic test instrumentation.
• Strong written and verbal technical communication skills, including communication with cross-functional teams and customers.
• Some positions may require access to controlled goods and technologies under ITAR or EAR regulations and may require U.S. person status.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Experience with diode, fiber, solid-state, or tunable laser systems and laser performance characterization.
• Experience with manufacturing, NPI, sustaining engineering, FMEA, DOE, SPC, or ISO 9001.
• Experience using Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or Zemax for engineering automation and modeling.
