Head of HR

Location: On-site at Robot Ranch in Austin, Texas; relocation to Austin is required if not within commuting distance.

What you will do

• Own the HR function end-to-end, including employee relations, benefits, compliance, onboarding, and workplace matters.
• Partner with leadership and managers on workforce planning, organizational design, and compensation structures.
• Build and improve HR systems and processes using Rippling and additional infrastructure as the company grows.
• Design performance management, career development, and employee engagement programs for a fast-scaling startup.
• Manage leaves of absence, workers’ compensation, field safety compliance, and other needs across office, field, and manufacturing personnel.
• Analyze people data and metrics to identify issues, measure program effectiveness, and inform leadership decisions.

Requirements

• 5+ years of HR experience, including employee relations, compliance, and HR program ownership.
• Strong understanding of employment law and HR compliance requirements in Texas.
• Ability to translate complex organizational needs into effective HR programs and policies.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build trust across all organizational levels.
• Willingness to work on-site in Austin, Texas, and relocate if outside commuting distance.
• Willingness to work extended hours when needed for critical employee-relations or compliance matters.

Nice to have

• Experience as a founding or early HR hire at a startup or fast-growing company.
• Experience supporting office-based and field, manufacturing, or construction personnel.
• Familiarity with construction, manufacturing, or hardware HR requirements, including workers’ compensation, field safety, unions, or apprenticeships.
• Hands-on experience with Rippling or a similar HRIS platform.
• PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification.
