TL;DR
Metallurgist (Polymer Specialist): Conducting materials analysis and characterization in a laboratory setting using microscopy and analytical instrumentation, with an accent on metals, polymers, coatings, corrosion, and failure analysis. Focus on interpreting analytical data, preparing customer technical reports, maintaining laboratory equipment, and applying ISO and safety procedures.

Location: Onsite at the Marietta office, Marietta, Georgia, United States. U.S. Persons only due to ITAR-controlled information.

What you will do

  • Perform material testing, materials characterization, data interpretation, and technical report writing.
  • Analyze metals, polymers, coatings, and related material systems using microscopy and laboratory instrumentation.
  • Support failure analysis investigations and customer materials characterization projects.
  • Consult with customers to define analysis requirements and collect relevant background information.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and verify laboratory equipment while managing chemical and equipment inventories.
  • Follow laboratory quality systems, ISO requirements, and safety procedures while supporting senior staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Polymer Science, or a related physical science discipline.
  • 0–2 years of experience in a metallurgical laboratory environment.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, mathematical, scientific, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices, laboratory ISO requirements, and safe laboratory procedures.
  • Ability to interpret analytical data and prepare clear technical reports for customers.
  • Must qualify as a U.S. Person under ITAR, including U.S. citizenship or nationality, lawful permanent residence, refugee status, or asylum status in the United States.

Nice to have

  • Academic research, internship, or industry experience in materials characterization, coatings, corrosion, or failure analysis.
  • Familiarity with optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, EDS, FTIR, XRD, and related techniques.
  • Knowledge of coatings technologies, corrosion mechanisms, corrosion testing, or crystalline phase identification using XRD.
