Senior Applications Engineer (Active Copper)

Location: Onsite at the MacDermid Alpha site in Wilmington, Delaware, United States. Up to 25% travel required. The role collaborates with sites in San Jose, California; Waterbury, Connecticut; and application qualification teams in Japan, China, Taiwan, and South Korea.

Salary: $109,341–$164,011 per year, depending on experience and education.

What you will do

• Lead the development and optimization of Active Copper paste deposition processes for quality, consistency, manufacturability, and minimal defects.
• Provide technical supervision and mentoring to applications engineers and technicians in the Wilmington team.
• Integrate paste deposition processes into board builds involving preplate, sinter, post-plate, and planarization.
• Design and execute experiments using printing, vacuum-assisted deposition, laser stencil cutting, and sinter press equipment.
• Support customer technical reviews, troubleshooting, qualification, and scale-up of Active Copper applications.
• Characterize deposit quality and process performance using cross-section analysis, SEM, AOI, and X-ray techniques, and communicate findings through reports and presentations.

Requirements

• MS with 7+ years of relevant experience or BS with 11+ years of relevant technical experience in electronics manufacturing, materials science, or a related applications field.
• Background in mechanical, chemical, or industrial engineering, or materials science.
• Experience with printing, dispensing, sintering, and plating equipment; vacuum-assisted printing and PCB sinter press experience is preferred.
• Strong design of experiments and statistical analysis skills, including DOE or Six Sigma methodologies.
• Experience mentoring or supervising junior technical staff and leading a small applications team.
• Strong technical communication skills, application knowledge, and commitment to safety.
