Senior Design Release Engineer (Vehicle Closures)

Location: Warren, Michigan; hybrid attendance at a specific location at least 3 times per week. Travel is required for less than 25% of the role.

What you will do

• Lead closure subsystem development and integration across Design, Manufacturing, CAE, Dimensional Engineering, and program teams.
• Provide technical ownership for closure system design, component integration, materials, regional requirements, benchmarking, and risk management.
• Lead the Product Development Team and manage releases, sourcing, validation plans, build readiness, and program milestones.
• Develop dimensional strategies covering BIW assessments, fit strategy, capability analysis, and validation planning.
• Align GD&T with assembly strategy and dimensional capability while identifying root causes of dimensional issues.
• Partner with Manufacturing across stamping, body, paint, and general assembly processes to support high-quality launches.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience as a Design Release Engineer or equivalent in full-cycle product development.
• Strong understanding of engineering operations, release processes, and vehicle program phases.
• Experience with global OEMs or suppliers and body manufacturing processes, including stamping, welding, hemming, tolerancing, surface quality, and closure dimensional metrics.
• Strong interpersonal, analytical, decision-making, and program management skills.
• Ability to work from and regularly report to the Warren, Michigan location; GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Master of Science or another advanced degree.
• DFSS Black Belt certification and Red X Journeyman certification.
• Experience in fixture design, product validation, budget planning, global regulations, and physics-based problem solving.
