Reactive Supplier Quality Engineer (Automotive)

Location: Detroit, Michigan, United States. Hybrid schedule: 4 days per week in-office and 1 day remote. Applicants may work in or relocate to Detroit, but relocation assistance is not available. Domestic and international travel of 30–50% is expected.

Salary: $78,000–$100,000 USD annually.

What you will do

• Lead a group of automotive suppliers in delivering quality powertrain components with sufficient production capacity.
• Monitor supplier performance, quality KPIs, DPPM, complaints, and on-time shipping compliance.
• Drive timely corrective actions, containment, root cause analysis, and permanent resolution of supplier non-conformances.
• Conduct supplier audits and lead process standardization, waste elimination, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Manage supplier technical issues and quality improvement projects to ensure uninterrupted production supply.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, customers, and Daimler management on supplier quality topics.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
• 1–3 years of related experience.
• Knowledge of GD&T, measurement system analysis, metallurgical requirements, and report interpretation.
• Experience with quality problem-solving tools such as 8D, 5-Why, and fishbone analysis.
• Strong problem-solving, verbal communication, written communication, and technical presentation skills.
• Applicants must be legally authorized to work permanently in the United States; visa sponsorship and applications from existing visa holders are not accepted.

Nice to have

• Project management or statistical process control experience.
• Experience with engine, axle, or transmission components.
• Knowledge of machining, casting, injection molding, stamping, or forging processes.
• Experience working with global suppliers across different regions and cultures.
• Knowledge of a foreign language.
