TL;DR
Manufacturing Engineer (Automotive) (Tooling/Process Engineering): Leading manufacturing engineering for new vehicle model development, including tooling, facility changes, assembly builds, plant layouts, and production launch support with an accent on quality, cost, labor efficiency, and cross-functional coordination. Focus on commissioning assembly tooling, resolving manufacturing issues, validating process performance, and managing implementation risks across US, Canadian, and Mexican plants.

Location: Hybrid position based at 20901 Oakwood Blvd, Dearborn, Michigan 48124; must live within a reasonable commuting distance. Extended domestic and international travel to assembly plants in the US, Canada, and Mexico is required, up to 90%.

Salary: $110,219–$166,200 per year.

What you will do

  • Provide manufacturing engineering leadership throughout new model development programs through launch and post-launch support.
  • Implement tooling, process, and facility changes based on product and process requirements.
  • Lead assembly builds, tooling installation, start-up, commissioning, and vendor tooling buy-off activities.
  • Develop plant and cycle line layouts, process sheets, tooling scopes of work, and manufacturing standards.
  • Identify and resolve manufacturing issues while driving quality, cost, labor, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate feasibility, cost studies, management presentations, launch-risk mitigation, and cross-functional activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the offered role or a related occupation.
  • At least 3 years of experience designing and implementing tooling, process, and facility changes in automotive manufacturing facilities.
  • Experience with statistical controls, error-proofing, program management, Six Sigma, Global 8D, and production line layout development.
  • Experience using AutoCAD and virtual tools such as Teamcenter, SolidWorks, CATIA, or CAD.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and able to commute to the Dearborn worksite.
