Trim Engineering Intern (Automotive)

What you will do

• Support A-surface trim engineering for automotive seat systems within engineering and program teams.
• Help resolve design issues using the Basic Engineering Process, lean engineering methods, and A3 problem-solving reports.
• Coordinate sample preparation, test timing, and analytical reports for A-surface material and seat testing.
• Apply Design for Assembly and Manufacturing principles to trim cover sewing, automation, and just-in-time assembly.
• Evaluate design changes in CAD and Optitex while assessing their high-level cost impact.
• Work with technical experts, customers, suppliers, and development teams to deliver engineering program requirements.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an accredited university and pursuing a four-year B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or Textiles.
• Available to work up to 40 hours per week on site in Plymouth, Michigan.
• Minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
• Strong analytical, verbal, written communication, organization, and follow-up skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Nice to have

• Previous automotive internship or co-op experience.
• CAD experience with CATIA or Unigraphics.
