Chief Cost Data Scientist and Principal Investigator (AI)

Location: Remote or hybrid within the United States, with occasional travel to the National Capital Region. Active Secret clearance and United States citizenship are required.

Salary: $185,000–$225,000 annually

What you will do

• Serve as the senior technical authority across pipeline designs, analytical methods, deployed products, deliverables, and subcontractor technical work.
• Architect and evolve the customer cloud cost data environment, including technology stack recommendations and platform decisions.
• Own experimental design, statistical governance, model selection, validation criteria, and reproducibility standards.
• Determine when machine learning is appropriate compared with transparent parametric methods based on sample size and data quality.
• Recommend technology insertions, assess their benefits, risks, effort, and pipeline impact, and advise the customer technical director.
• Lead machine learning and artificial intelligence research and translate complex analytical results into recommendations for senior decision makers.

Requirements

• At least ten years of data science experience, including at least five years in cost estimating or cost analysis.
• Experience leading cross-functional data science, data engineering, and cost analysis teams and defining data strategy.
• Experience with major defense-system cost estimating, cost estimating relationships, analogy estimating, and standard defense cost data.
• Demonstrated experience integrating advanced data science with existing processes and technologies and leading machine learning or artificial intelligence research.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and exceptional communication skills for senior stakeholder audiences.
• Active Secret clearance at hire and United States citizenship are required.

Nice to have

• Doctorate in statistics, operations research, economics, engineering, or a related quantitative field.
• Published research in cost estimating, applied statistics, or machine learning.
• Experience with Databricks, Apache Spark, Python, R, and SQL in a governed cloud environment.
• Prior support for a service cost agency, the Office of the Secretary of Defense, or a major defense acquisition program office.
• Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
