Director, Renewables

Location: Remote, based anywhere in the United States. The role operates from a home office and requires willingness to travel and flexibility to work irregular hours.

Annual salary: $110,000–$125,000, commensurate with experience.

What you will do

• Own a portfolio of county-level renewable energy engagements from initial assessment through hearings, votes, and ordinance outcomes.
• Lead campaigns that move counties from moratoria toward approved renewable energy projects.
• Build and maintain local support committees, coalitions, and relationships with county officials, planning staff, developers, community leaders, funders, and partners.
• Translate team strategy into tailored county and state campaign plans and lead execution based on local conditions.
• Develop stakeholder communications, reports, memos, letters, guides, and engagement materials.
• Maintain campaign intelligence and project-tracking systems and report outcomes, risks, and opportunities to senior leadership.

Requirements

• 4–8 years of experience running state or local political campaigns at scale, including hands-on renewable energy experience.
• Experience with land-use, siting, infrastructure approval, permitting, or regulatory processes.
• Ability to manage multiple campaigns, competing priorities, budgets, vendors, staff, and hard external deadlines.
• Strong communication and writing skills, including the ability to explain complex permitting and regulatory issues to local audiences.
• Experience with renewable energy databases such as Curate and Landgate, as well as AI tools.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience, plus comfort working with rural communities and county board chambers.

Nice to have

• Experience with battery energy storage siting and its local political considerations.
• Background in qualitative and quantitative campaign measurement and evaluation.
• Experience working with renewable energy developers on project-level approvals.
