Lead Electronic Engineer Consultant - Surgical Systems

Location: Cambridge, UK; work is associated with hirify.global's campus in Melbourn, just south of Cambridge, and includes travel for in-person meetings and client engagements.

What you will do

• Lead electronics engineering across the product lifecycle, from concept generation and feasibility through detailed design, verification, validation, and transfer to manufacture.
• Translate client, clinical, and user needs into engineering requirements and commercially viable solutions for surgical medical technologies.
• Lead small and medium-sized projects or workstreams, owning electronics work packages and balancing technical risk, cost, speed, quality, and regulatory considerations.
• Define system architectures, identify subsystem interactions, and communicate complex engineering topics to teams, clients, and stakeholders.
• Support project reviews, business development, and technically accurate proposals, while mentoring less experienced engineers.

Requirements

• At least 10 years of experience in electronic engineering within product development; medical devices, surgical systems, or another regulated sector is preferred.
• Experience designing complex schematics and PCB layouts for analogue, digital, and power circuitry in embedded systems, including high-speed digital designs.
• Ability to take complex products or systems from concept through development and transfer to manufacture.
• Strong project management, requirements gathering, prioritisation, stakeholder communication, and milestone delivery skills.
• Commercial judgement covering product value, manufacturability, cost, risk, and client needs.
• Clear communication, collaborative leadership, ownership, adaptability, and willingness to travel for in-person meetings and client engagements.

Nice to have

• Awareness of electronic system design, embedded systems, digital electronics, and FPGA development.
• Experience with C and C++ in embedded or hardware-adjacent development environments.
