Director, Legal, Energy & Power Procurement, EMEA

Nscale is building a vertically integrated GenAI cloud platform covering data centres, software, and applications, with a focus on sustainable AI infrastructure.

What you will do

• Lead negotiations for power procurement, utility supply, grid connection, interconnection, and network-use arrangements across EMEA data-centre campuses.
• Draft and negotiate PPAs, energy supply agreements, renewable-energy arrangements, certificates, and related procurement structures.
• Negotiate development, supply, installation, and O&M agreements for on-site generation, energy storage, microgrids, and critical-power infrastructure.
• Support grid-connection and energisation programmes, including capacity reservations, connection works, milestones, security, and delay-risk arrangements.
• Advise on pricing, volume commitments, curtailment, imbalance, change in law, force majeure, credit support, termination rights, insurance, guarantees, and bonding.
• Manage external counsel and collaborate with real estate, construction, procurement, finance, insurance, regulatory, and operations teams.

Requirements

• 7+ years of post-qualification legal experience in energy, power, infrastructure, or major projects.
• Qualified solicitor or barrister in England and Wales or another relevant EMEA jurisdiction and in good standing; England and Wales qualification is strongly preferred.
• Strong experience negotiating utility, grid connection, interconnection, energy supply, PPA, generation, equipment supply, and O&M agreements.
• Experience with large-scale, mission-critical, industrial, infrastructure, or energy-intensive projects across multiple EMEA jurisdictions.
• Ability to lead complex negotiations, manage multiple high-value contracts, and explain legal and commercial risks to senior non-lawyer stakeholders.
• Experience coordinating local counsel and working with real estate, construction, project finance, insurance, regulatory, and technical teams.

Nice to have

• Experience at a hyperscaler, colocation provider, data-centre developer, energy developer, utility, major contractor, or infrastructure investor.
• Experience with corporate, sleeved, or utility-scale PPAs and renewable-energy procurement.
• Experience with grid connection, transmission, distribution, on-site generation, energy storage, microgrids, or critical-power equipment.
• Project finance, bankability, energy regulatory, permitting, or environmental-attribute experience.
• Additional European language skills.
