Staff Software Developer (Cryptographic Security)

Location: Cambridge, United Kingdom — hybrid, 3 days onsite

What you will do

• Lead complex features from analysis and technical design through estimation, implementation, validation, and release.
• Translate evolving requirements into clear technical approaches and priorities.
• Design, develop, test, review, and maintain software across embedded systems, platform components, client-side tools, and APIs.
• Support system-level architecture decisions involving availability, latency, cost, data models, scale, and future evolution.
• Coach and mentor engineers, including Senior Software Developers, and influence technical decisions across disciplines.

Requirements

• Degree, equivalent qualification, or practical experience in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
• Strong expertise in C, Python, or comparable systems-level technologies, with experience working in established C and Python codebases.
• Significant experience designing and delivering complex, multi-component software systems across areas such as embedded software, device drivers, platform components, client-side tools, or APIs.
• Experience providing technical leadership for complex features or substantial software initiatives.
• Practical experience with CI/CD, automated testing, mentoring engineers, and cross-team technical influence.

Nice to have

• Experience in regulated industries or with software certification, assurance, and compliance requirements.
• Knowledge of open-source licensing, software supply-chain considerations, and open-source ecosystems.
• Knowledge of cryptographic principles, secure software development, or threat modelling.
• Exposure to Agile methodologies and scaled product-development environments.
