Staff Engineer, Applied AI

Location: Remote position

Hiring salary range: $194,000–$220,000 USD annually

What you will do

• Design, build, and productionize foundations for applying AI across operating models, product systems, and internal workflows.
• Develop AI-assisted sales follow-up, operational defect analysis, retrieval and memory systems, internal agentic tools, and AI-powered data analysis.
• Build secure model access, compliant data pathways, observability, cost controls, evaluation patterns, and reusable AI architecture.
• Create human-in-the-loop workflows and feedback systems that connect audits, product changes, and measurable business outcomes.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, design, data, operations, security, and business stakeholders.
• Participate in an on-call rotation with the tier 1 support team.

Requirements

• Production-grade experience with Python or transferable experience in languages such as Node.js, with willingness to learn Python.
• Experience designing reliable data models and working with relational databases at scale.
• Experience contributing to large, complex projects and working with legacy monolithic systems and new services.
• Ability to build systems connecting user-facing workflows, backend services, data pipelines, and AI or LLM capabilities.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical tradeoffs to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Careful consideration of quality, observability, privacy, security, and operational risk.

Nice to have

• Experience with LLM-powered products, AI agents, retrieval systems, memory systems, or evaluation frameworks.
• Experience with AWS Bedrock, OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic, or similar model platforms.
• Knowledge of secure data access, RBAC, auditability, compliant data workflows, and human-in-the-loop review.
• Experience with microservices, RPC architecture, React, DataDog, workflow automation, or operational tools.
• Experience mentoring engineers and spreading technical knowledge.
