TL;DR
Structures Engineering Internship (Aerospace) (CAD/FEA): Designing, building, and testing mechanical elements for in-orbit manufacturing spacecraft and ground support equipment with an accent on first-principles engineering, spacecraft hardware, and development testing. Focus on generating CAD models and engineering drawings, solving complex structural design challenges, and building flight and test hardware.

Location: Full-time, on-site in El Segundo, California, United States. Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. and qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR requirements.

Hourly rate: $33.00. Eligible interns may receive up to $4,000 in relocation support and up to $850 in commute credit.

hirify.global develops commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing systems, reentry capsules, heat shields, and satellite buses.

What you will do

  • Design, build, and test mechanical elements for in-orbit manufacturing spacecraft and ground support equipment.
  • Evaluate new design concepts using first-principles and physics-driven approaches.
  • Create CAD models and engineering drawings for spaceflight hardware.
  • Build and test development and flight hardware.
  • Contribute to projects such as ground support equipment, tooling, test setups, flight hardware modifications, and generative design applications.

Requirements

  • Active enrollment in an accredited bachelor's or master's degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a similar field.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve engineering challenges through technical projects, previous internships, co-ops, or personal projects.
  • U.S. work authorization and U.S. person status are required for access to export-controlled technology.
  • Experience with or knowledge of CAD, finite element analysis, machining, engineering programming, or GD&T is relevant to the role.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Siemens NX, Femap, or NASTRAN.
  • Experience using a mill or lathe.
  • Experience with Python or other engineering programming languages.
  • Familiarity with GD&T concepts.
