TL;DR
Propulsion Engineering Internship - Summer 2027 (Aerospace): Designing, analyzing, fabricating, and testing spacecraft propulsion fluid systems, including thrusters, propellant tanks, plumbing, and test equipment, with an accent on fluid engineering, hardware development, and propulsion testing. Focus on building test stands, supporting hotfire and component qualification programs, developing automated data reduction software, and analyzing high-precision fluid systems.

Location: Full-time, on-site in Los Angeles, California; company location in El Segundo, California. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and qualify as a U.S. person for access to export-controlled technology.

Hourly rate: $33.00. Interns may be eligible for relocation support of up to $4,000 and a commute credit of up to $850.

hirify.global develops commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing systems, reentry capsules, heat shields, and satellite buses.

What you will do

  • Design or support hardware and software for spacecraft or payload development.
  • Create test campaigns and build test stands for propulsion and fluid systems.
  • Perform analysis supporting spacecraft development and testing.
  • Contribute to propulsion projects involving thrusters, propellant tanks, plumbing, valves, and ground fluid equipment.
  • Support projects such as hotfire facility propellant systems, component test benches, automated data reduction, and valve qualification programs.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program and pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a similar field.
  • Completed relevant engineering coursework, including at least one of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, compressible flow, or combustion.
  • Strong fundamentals in fluids engineering and prior hands-on experience building or testing fluid systems.
  • Familiarity with engineering design and analysis tools such as NX/Teamcenter, GD&T, MATLAB, Python, and analysis packages.
  • Familiarity with the safe operation of combustion devices, rocket propellants, and pressurized systems.
  • Must be lawfully authorized to work in the United States and qualify as a U.S. person under applicable export-control requirements.

Nice to have

  • Previous internship or co-op experience.
  • Experience on technical project teams such as a rocket club or Formula SAE team.
  • Completion of a propulsion or rocket propulsion survey course.
  • Exposure to high-precision manufacturing environments.
