Transmission Planning Engineer (Power Systems)

What you will do

• Lead transmission planning engagements and manage scope, schedule, quality, deliverables, and client relationships.
• Perform steady-state load flow, contingency, transient stability, and dynamic simulation studies using transmission planning software.
• Lead generation and large-load interconnection studies across regional ISO and RTO footprints, including CAISO, MISO, PJM, ERCOT, and WECC.
• Develop long-range transmission expansion plans addressing load growth, generation retirements, renewable buildout, and infrastructure needs.
• Support FERC Order 1920 and Order 2023 compliance, NERC reliability studies, regulatory filings, and technical reports.
• Develop Python-based automation, mentor engineers, and contribute to proposals, client presentations, and business development.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
• At least 2 years of experience in transmission planning, power system studies, or related electrical engineering.
• Experience with PSS/E, PSLF, PowerWorld, or equivalent transmission planning software.
• Knowledge of transmission interconnection processes, regional ISO/RTO planning criteria, NERC reliability standards, and FERC requirements.
• Experience with inverter-based resource and BESS dynamic modeling, long-range expansion planning, or large-load interconnection studies.
• Strong technical writing and communication skills; Python proficiency and experience with power system study automation are expected.

Nice to have

• EIT or PE registration, or active pursuit of licensure.
• Short-circuit analysis experience with ASPEN, CAPE, or ETAP.
• Familiarity with PSCAD or EMTP electromagnetic transient software.
• Experience with technical proposals, client scoping discussions, and utility executive presentations.
