Software Engineer II, Backend (Streaming)

Location: Remote within the United States; occasional in-person work at an Affirm office and an in-person onboarding experience may be required.

Base pay: $165,000–$225,000 per year in CA, WA, NY, NJ, and CT; $146,000–$206,000 per year in other U.S. states.

What you will do

• Design, scale, and improve event-driven data infrastructure and stream-processing systems.
• Identify and execute new use cases for data infrastructure using technologies such as Kafka, Flink, and Schema Registry.
• Break larger projects into deliverable phases and collaborate with engineering, product management, design, and analytics.
• Create and monitor operational metrics, support service availability, and participate in on-call activities.
• Contribute to engineering growth through code reviews, interviews, and team development activities.

Requirements

• 1.5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems.
• Proficiency in Python or Kotlin.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, AWS, Kafka, Flink, and Kubernetes.
• Ability to write clear, well-tested, extensible code and work across multiple software components.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
