Staff Engineer (Fraud Prevention)

Location: Remote in the United States or Canada; somewhat regular in-person meetings with leadership in San Francisco and Berkeley are expected.

Estimated base salary: US$190,000–US$275,000 in the United States or CA$170,000–CA$260,000 in Canada, plus equity.

What you will do

• Serve as the technical steward and platform architect for the Consumer Fraud and Business Fraud engineering teams.
• Drive platform strategy and align technical direction across multiple teams and stakeholders.
• Architect and optimize ultra-low-latency backend services and high-throughput rules engines.
• Design data access patterns, partitioning strategies, and caching layers across a multi-cloud database ecosystem.
• Build pipelines for massively parallel real-time feature computation and aggregation.
• Mentor senior engineers and establish high technical standards from conception through delivery.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience at Staff, Principal, or Lead Architect level.
• Deep expertise in highly available distributed systems with strict ultra-low-latency requirements.
• Production experience with stream processing frameworks such as Kafka, Flink, SQS, or PubSub.
• Advanced experience with polyglot persistence and data modeling across document, wide-column, and relational databases.
• Platform engineering mindset focused on reliability, observability, and developer velocity.
• Ability to communicate complex architectural concepts and build cross-team consensus.
