Product Engineer (Wildfire Mitigation)

Location: Pullman or Lynnwood, Washington, United States; onsite role

What you will do

• Serve as the primary customer contact for wildfire mitigation research partnerships and support existing collaborations.
• Translate customer challenges, workflows, and requirements into product features, functionality, user experiences, and documentation.
• Work with R&D engineers, power engineers, researchers, and customers to develop wildfire detection, monitoring, situational awareness, and grid resiliency solutions.
• Build expertise in data acquisition, storage, and visualization tools including InfluxDB, Telegraf, and Grafana.
• Define product requirements, develop system architectures and concept documents, and contribute to new product ideas.
• Prepare technical documentation and training materials, perform product validation testing, and approve validation results.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• At least 2 years of working knowledge of automation, communications, software integration, and/or electric utility systems.
• Understanding of industrial networking, communications systems, and automation practices.
• Familiarity with data collection, time-series databases, and visualization platforms such as Grafana, InfluxDB, or Telegraf.
• Strong technical presentation, training, writing, customer communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Interest in understanding customer workflows and converting customer needs into product features and documentation.

Nice to have

• Experience with SEL automation, communications, or software products.
• Experience with electric utility communications, SCADA, or system integration.
• Experience specifying graphical user interfaces and customer-facing software features.
• Understanding of electric power systems and utility operations.
