TL;DR

Location: Chicago, IL; work arrangement details, including the proportion of on-site and remote work, will be discussed during the interview. Legal eligibility to work in the United States is required.

Salary: $85,000–$110,000 annually for the Chicago market, based on experience, qualifications, and position location.

What you will do

  • Provide underwriting and credit analysis support for community mortgage loan applications.
  • Review borrower information, financial statements, tax returns, credit reports, collateral details, and supporting documentation.
  • Assess borrower capacity, repayment ability, eligibility, and overall credit risk.
  • Identify missing documentation, underwriting conditions, policy concerns, and program requirements.
  • Prepare underwriting summaries and recommendations while maintaining accurate system notes and file updates.
  • Partner with lending teams to structure credit solutions and escalate complex or exception-based requests.

Requirements

  • Experience in underwriting, credit analysis, mortgage lending, community development finance, small business lending, or commercial lending.
  • Strong knowledge of lending principles, financial analysis, and credit risk assessment.
  • Ability to review financial statements, tax returns, cash flow, credit reports, and borrower documentation.
  • Deep knowledge of Federal Housing Administration guidelines and experience with grants and down payment assistance programs.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, judgment, and ability to manage multiple files.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States; this position does not offer visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with community development programs, affordable lending initiatives, mission-based credit products, or Community Reinvestment Act lending.
  • Experience supporting specialized lending teams.
