Director, Assistant Staff Counsel (Insurance Litigation)

Location: Remote (United States); travel to Staff Counsel offices, regional locations, management meetings, and conferences may be required up to 50% of the time.

Annual salary: $179,375–$280,850

What you will do

• Direct legal, operational, and administrative activities across multiple liability-focused Staff Counsel offices.
• Lead business performance, resource management, talent development, and client service outcomes.
• Review attorney files and trials for professional proficiency, including litigation and trial techniques.
• Provide guidance on complex legal and procedural issues involving negligence, insurance, ethics, statutes, and case law.
• Manage office litigation activities, including suits, arbitrations, trials, compromise orders, EUOs, minor settlements, and appeals.
• Support strategic planning, office openings, business plans, staffing projections, budgets, and operational improvements.

Requirements

• At least 12 years of litigation experience, including insurance defense or personal injury litigation.
• Liability experience is required.
• Must be licensed and in good standing to practice law in applicable jurisdictions and maintain required licensing and CLE requirements.
• Experience leading teams, resolving complex management issues, setting priorities, and managing multiple activities.
• Ability to communicate professionally, document files clearly, and learn and apply extensive technical and procedural information.
• Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, or as required, to Staff Counsel offices, regional locations, meetings, and conferences.
