UI/UX/IXD Designer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Rockville, Maryland, or remote within the continental United States (CONUS). Travel up to 10%.

Salary: $109,000–$121,000 per year.

What you will do

• Conduct user research, surveys, interviews, journey mapping, and persona development for logistics, clinical, and acquisition workflows.
• Create wireframes, high-fidelity prototypes, interactive forms, information architecture, and plain-language content.
• Run usability testing and design workflows that support transitions from legacy systems to modern products.
• Ensure interfaces follow the VA design system, U.S. Web Design System, Section 508, and WCAG 2.0 standards.
• Represent user needs in Agile ceremonies, define product metrics, document findings, and connect research to backlog improvements.
• Lead and mentor UX team members, coach Agile teams, improve reusable design libraries, and identify AI-assisted design opportunities.

Requirements

• 7+ years of UX and product design experience, including 3+ years in federal or healthcare environments.
• Advanced experience with Figma, Sketch, Mural, user research, usability testing, wireframes, prototypes, and Agile or SAFe teams.
• Deep knowledge of Section 508 and WCAG 2.0 Level A and AA, with experience using JAWS, NVDA, and axe.
• Experience with HTML, CSS, ARIA, low-code and SaaS platforms such as Nuvolo and ServiceNow, and analytics tools such as Power BI.
• Bachelor’s degree in human-computer interaction, interaction design, graphic design, cognitive psychology, information science, or a related field.
• Ability to obtain a VA PIV credential and pass a Tier 2 / Moderate Risk Background Investigation.

Nice to have

• Experience with VA supply chain products such as Maximo or IFCAP, operational dashboards, and legacy-system modernization.
• Nielsen Norman Group UX Certification, Human Factors International CUA or CXA, or an equivalent UX certification.
• SAFe Agilist or SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager certification.
• Master’s degree in a related field.
