Senior Software Engineer (Canvas Platform)

Location: Remote from Argentina, Canada, or the United Kingdom

Base salary: £82.4K–£103K in the UK; CA$148.3K–CA$185.4K in Canada. Compensation depends on location, level, knowledge, skills, and experience.

What you will do

• Own Canvas platform capabilities from problem definition through implementation, release, measurement, and iteration.
• Design and build reliable, maintainable systems for document editing, spatial interactions, rendering, asset management, and selection mechanics.
• Develop real-time collaboration systems that synchronize shared documents across users and handle event ordering, latency, conflicts, and failure modes.
• Contribute to developer-friendly APIs, service boundaries, data contracts, and platform abstractions used by internal engineering teams.
• Improve responsiveness through profiling, bottleneck analysis, architectural simplification, and targeted performance optimization.
• Partner with Product, Design, and Engineering while contributing through technical reviews, code reviews, mentoring, documentation, and pragmatic engineering improvements.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience building and shipping large-scale production software in an agile engineering environment.
• Fluency in modern JavaScript and TypeScript, with familiarity with React, Node.js, or comparable modern frameworks.
• Experience designing scalable, reliable, high-performance systems and maintainable developer-facing abstractions.
• Experience creating API contracts and service boundaries, including data models, versioning, validation, error handling, documentation, and long-term maintenance.
• Experience with distributed, concurrent, collaborative, or low-latency systems and concepts such as synchronization, consistency, event ordering, latency, and failure modes.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, including a low-ego approach to technical discussions and cross-functional work.

Nice to have

• Experience with hierarchical document or scene structures, spatial indexing, layout behavior, asset management, and performance-sensitive interactions.
• Experience building or integrating AI-enabled product capabilities in production.
• Familiarity with parallel processing, off-main-thread architectures, rendering pipelines, background computation, or multithreaded systems.
• Practical experience using AI-assisted tools and agentic workflows for prototyping, implementation, testing, documentation, and measurement.
• Experience working in high-growth environments or scale-ups.
