Staff Engineer

Location: Helsinki, Finland; hybrid and remote options available where applicable

What you will do

• Design, develop, and operate scalable services for API and routing-engine tiers.
• Build and improve services for routing-data consumption and storage.
• Develop internal tools, automations, quality metrics, and analytics for engineering and navigation products.
• Run experiments to evaluate product quality, reliability, and capacity requirements.
• Deliver features end to end, review designs and code, and shepherd releases across the navigation team.
• Participate in a 12/7 on-call rotation and collaborate with product, sales engineering, and management on product direction.

Requirements

• Professional experience engineering web services with Rust or TypeScript and Node.js.
• Experience building highly available API services in container-based environments such as Docker, ECS, or Kubernetes on AWS.
• Proficiency with monitoring instrumentation, incident triage, customer issue resolution, and continuous product improvement.
• Knowledge of operating systems and distributed systems, including fault tolerance, consistency, and service discovery.
• Experience driving long-term technical strategy, high-visibility initiatives, engineering standards, and operational excellence.
• Strong English verbal and written communication skills are required; experience or interest in geospatial problem solving is expected.
