TL;DR
Unit Coordinator (Periop/PACU): Coordinating patient activity, bed assignments, medical records, orders, and communications across a hospital unit with an accent on accurate documentation, clinical coordination, and patient-facing service. Focus on maintaining electronic and paper records, supporting admissions and discharges, handling emergency communications, and facilitating collaboration between clinical and administrative teams.

Location: On-site at Tufts Medical Center; Monday–Friday, 2:00 p.m.–10:30 p.m.; 40 hours per week

Salary: $18.81–$23.51 per hour, based on full-time equivalent

What you will do

  • Coordinate patient activity, admissions, transfers, discharges, bed changes, and bed-cleaning requests with admissions and clinical staff.
  • Greet and direct patients, visitors, physicians, and hospital personnel while supporting service excellence standards.
  • Assemble, update, organize, and prepare patient charts and medical records according to hospital policies.
  • Transcribe physician orders, update bedside charts and electronic systems, enter and verify orders, and generate reports.
  • Answer and triage calls, relay messages, and coordinate communications for transfers, discharges, outside services, emergencies, and STAT requests.
  • Support follow-up appointments, supplies and equipment tracking, downtime coordination, time and attendance records, and onboarding of new unit coordinators.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal, telephone, written communication, organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle detailed and confidential information independently and work with staff across departments, physicians, patients, vendors, and the community.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and hospital computer systems.
  • Extensive medical terminology knowledge for communication and physician-order transcription.
  • Ability to sit frequently, stand or walk occasionally, lift 10–15 pounds, and perform fine keyboard manipulations.

Nice to have

  • One year of customer service experience in a healthcare or customer-facing setting.
  • Associate's degree.
