Patient Access Specialist (Healthcare)

Location: 251 E. Huron, Chicago, IL, United States. Onsite, full-time day shift. Schedule: Monday–Wednesday 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m.; Thursday and Friday off; Saturday 7:30 a.m.–4 p.m.; Sunday 6:30 a.m.–3 p.m.

Salary: USD 18.40–27.60 per hour

What you will do

• Provide patient-first customer service, answer questions, resolve concerns, and escalate complex issues.
• Collect and verify patient demographics, registration data, referrals, authorization numbers, and insurance information.
• Schedule and direct patients through hospital systems while checking medical necessity, order details, appointment requirements, and financial account issues.
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits using online tools and communicate coverage or payment options to patients.
• Document accurate handoffs, messages, and telephone encounters in Epic and other scheduling systems.
• Participate in quality assurance, process improvement, cross-training, and departmental coverage.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2–3 years of customer service or medical office experience.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in English.
• Basic computer skills, accurate data entry, and typing speed of 40 words per minute.
• Ability to multitask and demonstrate strong organizational, analytical, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work onsite in Chicago, Illinois, according to the stated schedule.

Nice to have

• Additional education or language skills.
• Healthcare finance or healthcare insurance experience.
• Experience with patient scheduling, registration, or other healthcare operations.
