Patient Access Specialist

Location: Onsite at Mercy - Defiance Hospital in Defiance, Ohio. The position is limited to individuals who reside and are authorized to work within the United States.

Salary: $17.00–$18.15 per hour, based on experience.

What you will do

• Perform patient admission, registration, and pre-registration activities for hospital services.
• Assign accurate medical record numbers, collect demographic and insurance information, and process physician orders.
• Verify insurance eligibility, select insurance plan codes, enter benefit data, and support point-of-service collections and clean claims.
• Explain consent forms, patient education documents, Medicare and Tricare notices, observation forms, and other required documents.
• Screen medical necessity using ABN software and distribute and document required forms.
• Conduct account audits, maintain accurate records, operate the telephone switchboard, and provide compassionate customer service.

Requirements

• Entry-level opportunity with at least 1 year of customer service experience.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Inquisitiveness and openness to innovation, including AI-enabled process improvements.
• CRCR certification required within 9 months of hire; certification is company-paid.
• Must reside in and be authorized to work within the United States.
• Part-time schedule: 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m. two days per week and every third weekend.
