Focus on resolving coverage and financial-clearance issues, documenting patient accounts, and providing courteous support while maintaining HIPAA confidentiality.

Location: Onsite at Lowell General Hospital - Main Campus Patient Service Center in Lowell, Massachusetts. Per-diem schedule requires a minimum of 48 hours monthly, every Saturday from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM, plus three weeks of full-time weekday daytime training from 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM and two weekday daytime Epic courses.

Salary: $20.12–$25.15 based on full-time equivalent.

What you will do

  • Interview inpatients and outpatients and collect accurate demographic, financial, clinical, and insurance information.
  • Complete pre-registration, insurance eligibility verification, plan coding, and financial-clearance activities.
  • Obtain authorizations, pre-certifications, referrals, notifications, and treatment consents.
  • Explain patient financial liabilities and collect, process, and post payments.
  • Document patient account information and connect eligible patients with financial assistance counselors.
  • Provide professional service to patients and coordinate with physicians, nursing units, office staff, and insurance companies while protecting HIPAA-confidential information.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Computer literacy, accurate data-entry skills, and ability to learn electronic health record applications, including Epic.
  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, telephone, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of private insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, medical terminology, and patient registration systems.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, use a computer keyboard, and lift 10–15 pounds.
  • Availability for the required onsite Saturday schedule, weekday training, and Epic courses.

Nice to have

  • One year of experience in customer service, hospital registration, a medical office, insurance, or a related setting.
