TL;DR

Focus on handling emergency codes, resolving complex caller and physician issues, maintaining communication systems, and leading coverage across a 24/7 hospital operation.

Location: Onsite at Advocate Sherman Hospital, 1425 N Randall Rd, United States. Full-time schedule is ideally weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with flexibility required to cover gaps, weekends, holidays, different shifts, and overnight call-ins.

Salary: $19.80–$29.70 per hour.

What you will do

  • Coordinate switchboard operations, operator scheduling, PTO approvals, breaks, audits, statistics, time-card reviews, and departmental updates.
  • Answer and route internal and external calls, provide hospital information, and support patients, physicians, staff, and the public.
  • Operate pager, overhead paging, answering-service, and telecommunications systems, including emergency code communications.
  • Communicate with Public Safety, the Emergency Room, Building Operations, nursing stations, physicians, and other hospital departments during emergencies.
  • Troubleshoot customer and departmental issues, provide operator feedback, and act as a point person for problems and inquiries.
  • Fill in as a switchboard operator during vacations, illnesses, overnight call-ins, and other staffing shortages.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 4–5 years of customer service experience in a healthcare setting.
  • 2 years of lead or coordinator experience, or demonstrated leadership potential.
  • At least 6 months to 1 year of PBX experience and 1–2 years of PBS software experience.
  • 1–2 years of call center experience, strong communication and organizational skills, and proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, weekends, holidays, different shifts, and under stressful conditions in an onsite hospital environment.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Accurate typing speed of 50 or more words per minute.
  • Bilingual communication skills.
