TL;DR
Harness Manufacturing Engineer (Aerospace): Building and scaling an in-house wire harness production line for satellite programs with an accent on harness fabrication, tooling, verification, and flight-production processes. Focus on developing cleanroom and ESD procedures, qualifying production operations, integrating hardware, and resolving manufacturing nonconformances.

Location: San Francisco, California, United States; full-time in-office, 5 days per week

Salary: $114,200–$142,700 USD annual base salary

hirify.global designs, builds, and operates imaging satellites and delivers satellite data through a cloud-based platform for commercial, environmental, and humanitarian applications.

What you will do

  • Own manufacturing engineering and production operations for the in-house wire harness cell across satellite programs.
  • Develop harness assembly procedures, process flows, work instructions, and cleanroom and ESD protocols.
  • Design and deploy tooling, fixtures, workstations, and verification programs including continuity, HiPot, and pull tests.
  • Partner with Electrical Engineering on DFM/DFA feedback and support subsystem integration and build troubleshooting.
  • Manage the transition from outsourced to in-house production, including vendor qualification and production phasing.
  • Hire and train production technicians, monitor production metrics, and recommend capacity improvements.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of manufacturing development experience, including direct wire harness or cable assembly manufacturing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Hands-on experience with wire preparation, crimping, solder cup termination, shield termination, backshell installation, and potting.
  • Working knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3 workmanship requirements.
  • Experience reading and creating harness drawings, wiring diagrams, and pinout tables.
  • Experience with RapidHarness or SolidWorks Electrical, SolidWorks tooling and fixturing, and hardware assembly, integration, and test.

Nice to have

  • Experience standing up manufacturing cells or bringing outsourced assembly processes in-house.
  • Knowledge of spaceflight interconnect standards, NASA workmanship standards, or NASA Level 2 screening.
  • Experience with CAMI or Cirris automated test systems and DMC or Schleuniger crimp tooling.
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification, Certified IPC Trainer status, or experience with MES/PLM software and cleanroom continuous improvement.
