Field Operations Intern (Robotics/AI)

Location: Davis, California, United States. The role is based locally near Davis, centered at the Davis test farm, with occasional travel to nearby partner fields of up to 15%. A valid driver's license is required for local component runs.

What you will do

• Set up, stage, operate, and field-test autonomous vehicles and agricultural equipment.
• Maintain a safe, organized test environment and support equipment staging and local component transport.
• Execute test plans covering hardware, software, machine vision sensors, and system performance under varied field conditions.
• Help diagnose mechanical, electrical, and software issues and assist with field repairs and routine maintenance.
• Collect, log, and document test results, system issues, and performance metrics for Engineering and Product teams.
• Prepare prototype equipment, maintain inventory, and keep test rigs and tools organized and calibrated.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in agricultural, biological systems, mechanical, or electrical engineering, agronomy, ag systems technology, or a related technical field.
• Hands-on experience with mechanical tools, basic electronics, outdoor machinery, farm equipment, shop tools, or robotics projects.
• Practical and methodical troubleshooting skills for integrated hardware and software systems.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and a collaborative, eager-to-learn approach.
• Must be based locally near Davis, California and able to work outdoors in varying seasonal weather conditions.
• Must frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds; a valid driver's license is required.
