Director, Software Quality Engineering (AI)

Location: Santa Clara, California, United States; hybrid with on-site work three days per week

Salary: $195,000–$330,000 per year, plus equity and bonus opportunities

What you will do

• Define quality strategy, technical roadmaps, and test architecture across firmware, compilers, runtimes, and inference-serving software.
• Build reusable automated functional, integration, end-to-end, and continuous soak testing frameworks.
• Establish numerical-tolerance policies, performance-regression detection, QA readiness criteria, quality gates, and release-candidate qualification processes.
• Lead defect triage, failure investigation, coverage decisions, and risk communication across engineering teams.
• Evaluate AI-assisted test generation, triage, and failure clustering while measuring their impact and maintaining human review.
• Manage open-source and proprietary software license compliance, coordinate the AI use policy, and coach the software quality engineering team.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience setting quality strategy and test architecture while leading daily delivery and developing a software quality or test engineering team.
• Strong programming ability in Python and/or C++, including test framework development and test code review.
• Systems software testing experience in firmware, compilers, runtimes, drivers, distributed systems, or comparable software, including integration with real hardware.
• Experience designing coverage under resource constraints, integrating tests into CI, and defining promotion and release gates.
• Ability to evaluate AI-assisted engineering workflows and determine whether generated tests verify intended behavior.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of machine learning or inference, including quantization, numerical behavior, and model accuracy evaluation.
• Experience with inference-serving software, performance benchmarks, Kubernetes-based test environments, hardware-in-the-loop testing, device farms, or lab automation.
• Experience managing open-source license compliance.
