Assistant General Counsel, IP Strategy (AI)

Location: USA - Remote

Base salary: $210,000–$300,000 per year, plus eligibility for bonuses, equity grants, and benefits.

What you will do

• Develop and manage a global patent prosecution strategy aligned with product roadmaps, market indicators, competitive intelligence, and business value.
• Identify mission-critical innovations with Product and Engineering and make filing, continuation, abandonment, and maintenance decisions.
• Manage global trademark portfolios, including clearance, filings, renewals, watch services, and opposition or cancellation proceedings.
• Advise on copyright ownership and protection, trade secrets, IP licensing, M&A, third-party demands, and patent analyses.
• Manage outside patent counsel, IP dockets, budgets, and external legal spend.
• Implement and govern AI-enabled workflows for invention disclosures, prior-art review, office-action summaries, portfolio analytics, counsel review, and budget analysis.

Requirements

• J.D., active bar membership in the state of residence, eligibility to practice as registered in-house counsel, and admission before the USPTO.
• 15+ years of relevant IP experience, including team management.
• Extensive experience with patentable technologies in software, SaaS, cloud, cybersecurity, and/or AI.
• Expertise managing global patent portfolios and jurisdictional filing strategies.
• Experience with trademark, copyright, and trade secret law.
• Demonstrated ability to implement and govern practical AI use cases in legal and IP workflows, manage significant budgets, and improve operational efficiency.

Nice to have

• Experience with cybersecurity software and SaaS technologies.
• Engineering or computer science background.
• Experience supporting IP licensing, M&A, or open-source matters.
