Data Architect Lead

Location: Hybrid in Rockville, Maryland, or remote within the continental United States (CONUS); up to 15% CONUS travel.

Salary: $188,546–$202,875 per year.

What you will do

• Lead data architecture, governance, migration, data quality, and analytics across the VA supply chain and logistics product portfolio.
• Design and govern enterprise data models, master data management solutions, data platforms, and integration standards.
• Lead legacy data profiling, cleansing, mapping, transformation, validation, reconciliation, and migration.
• Establish standards for data lineage, security, privacy, and governance.
• Design enterprise platforms for reporting, analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship while collaborating with VA stakeholders, architects, engineers, cybersecurity teams, and Agile delivery teams.

Requirements

• 12+ years of data architecture and engineering experience, including 5+ years as a lead data architect on large federal IT programs.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience architecting enterprise lakehouse or comparable data platforms.
• Experience with Databricks or comparable modern data platforms, SQL, Python, ETL/ELT, data lineage, and governance.
• Experience with enterprise data models, master data management, large-scale migrations, and DoDAF, UAF, or comparable architecture frameworks in SAFe environments.
• Experience developing or governing AI/ML solutions for forecasting, anomaly detection, analytics, or decision support.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field; Tier 2 / Moderate Risk Background Investigation and ability to obtain a VA PIV credential.

Nice to have

• Experience with VA OIT data governance, federal health, supply chain, logistics, or related enterprise data environments.
• Master’s degree.

Hiring process

• Required certifications include Databricks Certified Data Engineer, Certified SAFe Architect or qualifying SAFe certification, and Databricks Certified Generative AI Engineer.
• Missing qualifying SAFe ARCH or Databricks Generative AI certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire where applicable.
