TL;DR
Electron Beam Product Engineer (Semiconductor): Operating, maintaining, and improving electron beam metrology and review tools for semiconductor manufacturing with an accent on tool performance, calibration, uptime, and structured root-cause investigation. Focus on solving complex system-level failures, coordinating global engineering teams, and developing service procedures for precision equipment in a clean-room environment.

Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA; 5 days a week onsite. Work in an ISO Class 5 clean room. Domestic and international travel may be required for initial training over a two-month period.

Base pay: $76,300–$111,900 annually.

What you will do

  • Own electron beam tools similar to scanning electron microscopes and coordinate their operation and maintenance across multifunctional teams.
  • Coordinate with the global tool user community to keep local tools available for engineers across work shifts.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain semiconductor metrology and review tools to protect performance and uptime.
  • Complete calibrations, specification validation, and preventative maintenance while monitoring local and remote tool performance.
  • Investigate complex failures using structured root-cause problem-solving and lead rapid issue resolution.
  • Document test results, share lessons learned, update service procedures, and provide on-call support during evenings, weekends, and holidays when required.

Requirements

  • Master's degree with no related experience, or bachelor's degree with at least 2 years of related experience.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience operating and servicing vacuum systems and at least 5 years of clean-room experience.
  • Hands-on experience with high voltage, ultra-high vacuum, electron microscopy, precision instruments, and electrical and chemical safety.
  • Strong investigative, troubleshooting, communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.
  • Comfort with Python scripting, Matlab, and statistical packages such as JMP.
  • Ability to work onsite 5 days per week in Ann Arbor and in an ISO Class 5 clean room.

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree in physics, optics, electrical engineering, material science, or mechanical engineering.
  • Design of Experiments expertise.
  • Semiconductor capital equipment OEM experience.
  • Experience independently researching technical references and learning new systems.
