Test Engineer (Nuclear)

Location: Onsite at the Alameda, California headquarters

What you will do

• Design, fabricate, commission, operate, and continuously improve experimental systems, prototype hardware, laboratory equipment, tooling, and fixtures.
• Investigate technical problems through engineering analysis, hands-on experimentation, systematic troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
• Integrate mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, instrumentation, software, and control components into functioning experimental hardware.
• Plan, execute, document, and analyze engineering experiments that reduce technical uncertainty and inform design decisions.
• Develop instrumentation, data acquisition, automation, and control solutions for laboratory testing.
• Collaborate with engineers, analysts, technicians, machinists, software developers, and operations personnel on rapid hardware iteration.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics, engineering physics, or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
• 5+ years of experience designing, building, integrating, testing, commissioning, or troubleshooting experimental hardware or electromechanical systems.
• Experience with laboratory equipment, prototype systems, manufacturing tooling, robotics, automation systems, or research infrastructure.
• Experience integrating mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, pneumatic, or software systems, including CAD and mechanical design.
• Knowledge of sensors, instrumentation, control hardware, data acquisition, laboratory safety, experimental data analysis, and multidisciplinary troubleshooting.
• Ability to work onsite in Alameda, California, including occasional weekends, schedule flexibility, and extended hours during launch or critical project timelines.

Nice to have

• Experience with LabVIEW, PLCs, Python, embedded systems, or similar engineering tools.
• Experience in nuclear, aerospace, robotics, scientific instrumentation, semiconductor, or other advanced technology environments.
• Experience providing technical guidance to less-experienced engineers and technicians.
